2025 Kick Off Ride – May 4, 2025

May 4 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Hello Rigid Riders,

Time to knock the rust off your bike chain with our first spin of the season.

As is tradition, we start our kick-off ride with bagels and coffee at Steve’s place and then either cycle or drive 1 KM to the Leslie Street Spit.

Details below:

The Pre-Ride:

Steve and Lori invite you for a pre-ride mini-breakfast of coffee, bagels and more. Of course we are also proud to offer PDTea for a nice Dopamine hit.  The noshing and mingling will run from 9:30 – 10:30 am.   We will start riding at 10:30, for those who want to start with us.  Otherwise, we’ll meet you at the Spit.

83 Pape Ave, Unit #6   Directions

There are 8 visitor parking spots available at our complex, and street parking on Pape.  Feel free to either leave your car by the house, or continue on the short distance to the Leslie Street Spit.  Steve’s Place:

The Ride:

Our first ride is at the Leslie Street Spit, and we will be kicking off at 10:40 am. At the front gate pavilion beside the parking lot. There is ample parking onsite in the parking lot and on the street (see map).

This is the best place for a early season ride.  Pair up and ride at your own pace.

Easy riders:

Worried that you are too slow? Don’t want to feel like you are holding up the group? Unsure about your skills and just want to test things out?  We hear you.  You are the soul of the Rigid Riders, and we intend to make sure that you feel welcome.  We are focusing on routes and strategies to get you riding at your pace.  No stress, no worry – just a fun cycle with friends.  Depending on the number of riders and ride-leaders, we will have staggered start times and route lengths, to choose from.

And the same goes for you speedsters.  You have a home here, and we want to slice through the wind with you, as well.

Road Trips:

Over the Summer we are planning on hitting the road for a few trips around the G-GTA, including Collingwood, Peterborough and other cycling meccas.

Hold the Date:

Speaking of road trips, this Summer’s BIG ride will be the Parkinson’s Canada Growling Beaver in Collingwood on October 4.  Put this date in your calendar now.  This will be our show of force, and there will be parties.

Social:

With all the good news recently on the PD research front, it can get lost in the message that we are all still working a plan: GET MOVING TO KEEP MOVING.
